In this follow-up to his June article, “The Brave New World of Learning,” Adkins takes us farther into the future, explaining how enterprise application integration products are changing the landscape of learning technology, content, and services. Vendors are marketing a variety of EAI products that can be categorized by functionality: resource management, collaboration management, process management, and product management. Each vendor brings a unique core expertise into the equation, and innovation is widespread. It’s important to note that few of these suppliers label their innovations as learning technology; they tend to market them as a core business process that must be modeled, managed, and measured as a key performance indicator. On the surface, this expression appears to be just a market positioning tactic. But Adkins explains that it’s just the beginning of a strategic move to integrate learning with the other enterprise business processes.
